When my husband “gifted” me a heated and freshly painted garage for my Montana studio, I had to rally and make a brilliant working space “work”. Initially, I was motivated by the hot autumn colouring of this beyond beautiful, constantly changing mountain-valley-lake-misty land. I am a prairie person and unaccustomed to such a variety of flora, hysterical hues and a lake that reads “ocean” to me.
The Montana series was also fueled by our regular drives through the prairies and the mountain passes as well as hours of hiking and just gazing as the weather kept changing and challenging.
Many of 2015 paintings were also my reflecting on that summer of forest fires- the summer of no rain, hot haze, choking smoke and regular lightning storms. Mother nature is always reminding us of our insignificance and of the frailty of our environment.
